Dive Emergency Procedures

First Step

Call Dr Bobby Wellsh on (+675) 72144651 to assess the situation and advise what course of action to take

As an alternative call Diving Emergency Services (DES) for a diagnosis: Diving Emergency Services: +1 919 684 9111

(if calling from an Australian SIM, call 1800-088-200)

Evactuation is required

In the event that an evacuation to a recompression facility is recommended, notify:

  • MEDICAIR Switchboard                  + 675 311 2673 (Daytime B/H)

                                 Ops/Medivac Manager        +675 7249 1829

                                 Back-up Manager                    +675 7220 5819

  • HYPERBARIC CHAMBER - Chamber Manager

                                  +675 7202 1200 or +675 71949333 or +675 72203504

                                  +675 73869443 (WhatsApp)

For DAN insured divers

If evacuation is required MEDICAIR will contact DAN. They will require

   • DAN membership details

   • Description and location of the accident

   • Source of medical advice/diagnosis, eg. Dr Wellsh

MEDICAIR will also require this information from the Patient/Guardian:

   • Full name & date of birth

   • Nationality & passport number

   • Australian visa details (if necessary)

   • Mobile contact numbers

For non-DAN insured divers

For other insured, call the emergency contact for that insurer.

For self-insured, patient/guardian must arrange the evacuation directly.
